Welcome
to the Federation of Midland Fly Fishers ...
As the new FMFFA Chairman,
may I thank past Chairman Mel Parrot for his work and time in the
organisation of the FMFFA. His presence at meetings was always
formidable, unable to tolerate any flannel, his grasp of detail was
impressive and the meetings were neither long nor boring. He will be ‘a
hard act to follow’.

Would you like to fly fish
for your country? It has never been easier to get started. Every year
the Federation organises two qualifying matches on the midland
reservoirs. These matches are the first step to qualifying to fish in
the England team. The top 28 rods in the national final to be fished
this year on Bewl Water on Friday 21st September will be
invited to form the England team.
There has never been a
better time to earn the privilege of fishing for your country. 20 years
ago flyfishers had to win a series of club matches just to be invited to
fish in the qualifying matches. As an extra incentive in these difficult
times, the entry fee has been reduced to just £40 which includes the
boat fees for both matches. The FMFFA acknowledges the support provided
by Anglian Water. Stocking levels will be the same as last year. The
excellent fishing enjoyed in 2011 and the excellent facilities for
matches will be maintained in 2012.
The Confederation of
English Fly Fishers (CEFF) has now been disbanded and has been reformed
as Team England Fly Fishing (TEFF). The TEFF is now part of the Angling
Trust which is now the national governing body for angling. To dispel
any doubt, the Angling Trust is the governing body of game fishing in
England. The AT through the Angling Trust Fly Fishing Committee
determines overall policy for game fishing and is ultimately responsible
for the allocation of Government Sports Grant Aid. The TEFF shall
consist of approved fly fishing federations and all qualifying anglers
for the National Final must be an INDIVIDUAL member of the Angling
Trust. The TEFF is now the sole authority for representing England in
senior international fly fishing association matters.
Your federation is a
member of the Angling Trust. I would urge you to become an individual
member. The Angling Trust and Fish legal are a force to be reckoned with
and are both gaining significant influence over the welfare and future
of our sport.
