Welcome to the Federation of Midland Fly Fishers (Anglia) website. FMFFA consists of 7 member clubs, representing approximately 500 individual anglers. We organise the annual, regional competitions on Grafham and Rutland for these members who wish to compete in the national match organised to select those who will fish for England in International matches. This year, these Qualifiers are on the 30th May at Rutland and on the 20th June at Grafham. The draw will be as before posted on the website after it has been done. The 2010 National will be held at Chew Valley on the 25th of September, with the two previous days allocated to official practice. 2010 Anglian Water opening dates: Ravensthorpe 27th February, Pitsford 12th March, Grafham 19th March and Rutland Water on the 1st of April. CEFF AGM 2009 Report On Saturday 29th November, Chris Bobby and Peter Hartley and I represented our Federation at the Annual General Meeting of the Confederation of English Fly Fishers. John Mees also attended as the Loch Style Competition Secretary. Baz Reece, the Chairman, of the Confederation reported on a successful 2009 with a Gold medal at the World Championships in Scotland and Ian Barr being crowned as World Champion. It is good to see our Federation members doing so well. England also achieved second place in the European Championships in Ireland. Mark Lloyd, the CEO of the Angling Trust reported that their current membership stands at 12,500, however they need a lot more support to make the organisation self funding. Mark responded positively to our many questions and welcomed our support. I do hope that all member clubs in the Federation and all their individual members will join the Trust. We do need a single voice for angling in this country. John Ball, the Confederation Treasurer, has negotiated substantial sponsorship from Hardy Greys for three years. John does a lot of fund raising and without his efforts the Confederation would be in serious financial difficulty. England finished second in both the Loch Style Internationals. Sue Hunter reported the Ladies had fished hard at the Ladies International, but with their lack of experience on Irish waters put them at a distinct disadvantage. A proposal was put forward by Peninsula that travelling reserves be awarded an England cap. This was discussed briefly but not supported. Overall, a successful meeting. It is still anticipated that the planned merger of CEFF and the Angling Trust will take place when financial pressures are overcome. Anglian Water Meeting FMFF(A) met Anglian Water Services on 11th November. Anglian Water was represented by Jake Williams (Recreation and Access Manager), Jon Marshall (Fisheries and Site Manager), John Mees (Senior Warden, Grafham Water), Nathan Clayton (Senior Warden, Pitsford, Ravensthorpe, Hollowell), John Seaton (Senior Warden, Rutland) I chaired the meeting. Club representatives were Allan Sefton from East Midlands, Chris McLeod and John Cauldwell from Invicta and Peter Hartley and Brian Calvert from Grafham Water Fly Fishers. Mick Stevens, Kevin Rowley and Mike Philpott represented Mid Northants alongside John Maitland and John Whaddon for Rutland. The most important message from Anglian Water is that, despite financial pressures, their management plans for recreational fisheries were not changing. We were assured by the Anglian Water team that the stocking levels at all Reservoirs will remain similar to this year. There should be very few changes as far as anglers are concerned with the running of the Fisheries for 2010. A range of other angling topics ranging from health and safety to cormorant numbers were covered during the meeting. The AW representatives listened to and promised action on some minor concerns. They also provided an up date on some current plans on subjects such as bank erosion. In summary, a productive meeting. We agreed to meet again in 2010. Mel Parrott CHAIRMAN FMFFA |
